Tarantula? It looks more like a little wolf spider, sometimes called a house spider. They don't bite people, they can't, their mouths are too small.
Anyway, you were brave to take it on, but tell the food service girl all these eat is nasty bugs like flies and mosquitoes that get in the house, so it might not be a bad idea to just leave them alone or scoot them gently out the door.

From the picture, it looks more like a housefly. If a spider, I don't think it was a tarantula...pretty sure. However, the way you handled the situation is why you were sheriff of Trout Towne, Angel Sauce. Well done.
